St. Teresa's Catholic Church

Albany, GA

The project included a major expansion of the church with two wing additions, a new entrance/gathering area, a new activity center and a complete interior renovation of the worship area.

Extensive use of wood in the entrance area provides a warm counterpoint to the brick exterior, and large areas of glass allow natural light to create an airy atmosphere in the gathering area.

St. Paul Catholic Church

Douglas, GA

This new church facility includes a worship space, gathering area, kitchen, office, sacristy, reconciliation room and other support spaces.

The building’s exterior design reflects a mission style and uses a combination of stucco and brick masonry. A colonnade connects the main entrance to the parking area. The mission style carries through to the interior as well. The worship space incorporates a high pitched ceiling, beams, columns and pilasters, decorative wall niches, and a large raised curved sanctuary platform. The interior finishes include ceramic tile floor, wood trim, wood pews, and painted wall and ceiling surfaces with painted accents.

The new building was designed to echo the architectural features of the historic structure and included painted brick, arched windows and gables to complement the original design. The interior features a vaulted ceiling in the fellowship hall and a full service kitchen.

Our Divine Savior Catholic Church

Tifton, GA

This church’s sanctuary was renovated and enlarged to accommodate up to 400 parishioners in a single Mass, and the layout of the church and sanctuary was reconfigured.

The concept was to renovate and upgrade the existing structure, while using the vaulted ceiling and natural light to enhance the spiritual atmosphere of the building.

Sherwood Baptist Church’s Legacy Park

Albany, GA

Sherwood Baptist Church’s Legacy Park is an 82-acre sports complex for outdoor activities. It includes a children’s play area, sand volleyball courts, a fishing pond, baseball fields, softball fields, soccer/football fields, tennis courts, a covered pavilion, a grilling area, walking trail, and restrooms.

SRJ Architects, with the help of Coastal Design & Landscape, Inc., did a Rendered Master Plan for Legacy Park showing layout of vehicular and pedestrian circulation, planting areas, pocket park spaces, structures, site furnishings, and signage.  A Pattern Book was developed showing design patterns for signage, structures, site furnishings, lighting, paving materials for paths, and a plant palette.

SRJ designed gateway entries and designed the scoring tower and concession facilities for the ball fields.

The design of a religious structure should reflect the values of its congregation and encourage reverence, fellowship and worship.

At the same time, it must be comfortable and accessible. Beauty and function should work together to make a church a place people want to be.

SRJ designs of religious facilities embody all these values, while keeping a careful eye on the cost control so critical to those entrusted with the stewardship of funds donated by the faithful.
