Albany, GA

Welcoming a new era for general aviation operations at the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport (ABY), the newly unveiled 5,642-square-foot general aviation terminal stands as a beacon of modernity. Nestled beside the recently completed hangar complex, this terminal marks a significant upgrade from its predecessor, likely dating back to the military flight training days of the 1940s.

With a price tag just surpassing $6 million, the terminal and its accompanying site work were made possible through a combination of federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act funds, state grants, and contributions from local transportation local-option sales tax dollars.

Designed with both functionality and aesthetic appeal in mind, the interior of the terminal pays homage to the region's rich heritage of bobwhite quail hunting, a pursuit that draws many visitors to the area. Passengers and flight crew alike will find comfort in the multiple lounge areas, thoughtfully designed for relaxation and convenience. A dedicated conference room stands ready to host meetings for visitors arriving by air, while flight planning areas and a pilots’ lounge cater to the practical needs of aviation professionals. Additionally, office space is provided for the fixed base operator service team, ensuring seamless operations within the terminal.

With its blend of modern amenities and nods to local tradition, the new general aviation terminal at ABY promises to enhance the travel experience for all who pass through its doors.
